Priest River!! (Double Run)

CFS 2600

Sherri, Duke, Kent, Curtis, Megan, Gordon, Jillian, Terry, Susan, Pat, Ken, Doug, Chris, and Bob

This was our "goodbye Duke and Sherri" trip. It was awesome! This was our first time on the Priest. It is a short, fast run, so if you go, you gotta do a couple runs in a row. There is only one major rapid, called Bernard's Rapid. The clean run is right-center. There are two room-sized holes on the left-center run, but they are doable.

We had a great barbecue afterwords : ).

Cold, cold, cold, cold, cold!! It was about 49 degress outside. We stayed warm while on the river, but when we got out, changed, and loaded our boats up, I thought my fingers were going to freeze right off! I must remember to bring warm, dry glove to put on after boating from now on.

Sullivan Wave is pretty delicious right now, but as cold as it is, it's hard to want to stay and surf for long.

A very nice run!! It was cold, but we were dressed for it this time. Flora was an absolute dream. Sullivan is a bit steep at this level (whatever the hell the level is...) but should even out and become delicious with a few more hundred CFS.

A nice run into the evening. We put on around 6 and it was twilight when we were done, very lovely day to be out there. Flora is fabulous right now--I wish I could run it over and over! Sullivan is still a little steep.

A beautiful morning run. Blue skies. The run was a little rocky, but not too bad at all; we've definitly run it lower than this. Flora was especially fun at this level--technical, but nice and slow. Ron & Cindy came out to take photos of us (with Baker!). It was a very nice little paddle.

Jill's first time through the B&P!! Scary, but not too bad at this level. We portaged the D's T again. Jillian swam through a rocky bit just below the Toenail. Must have hit a rock or something. But didn't get too beat up :).

Gordon and Drew went back for a second run while Jill went home to make dinner.

The B&P is quite navigable at this level. Jillian ran shuttle and was jealous that she didn't paddle. The Toenail is not currently navigable (as you can clearly see below) unless you are incredibly talented or incredibly stupid, so we portaged there.

Fish Lake

Date: July 22nd
Who: Gordon and John Wright

John's second roll lesson. He totally rocked it! I've never seen anyone get their roll so quickly. He only missed a few--probably had about 10 good rolls in. John's roll is definitely a C-to-C Roll, although he tends to skip home base and go right to position 2, but somehow it works! Now we just have to get him out on the river!

Fish Lake

Date: July 21st
Who: Gordon, Jillian, and John Wright

We gave John a quick lesson in kayaking basics including wet exits, T-rescues, and paddle strokes. He was anxious to try rolling, so we gave him a little lesson in that too. Amazingly enough he actually got one!

In other news, while we were out of town on a backcountry canoe trip on Ross Lake last week, Spokane River levels dropped to just about below-kayaking levels. So, so sad. Now hurry up Fall!
